Every diamond we sell is certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The GIA is the world's highest authority when it comes to the evaluation, authenticity, and quality of diamonds. The certificate number is also lasered into the girdle – the area of the diamond with the largest diameter. Two other globally recognized diamond certification laboratories are HRD and IGI – some of our diamonds are also certified by these institutes.

Only GIA-certified diamonds

Apart from the diamond itself, an official certificate is the most important aspect to consider when purchasing a diamond. Certificates from only three laboratories are recognized and respected worldwide – the US Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the Belgian institutes HRD (Hooge Raad for Diamant) and IGI (International Gemological Institute), both headquartered in Antwerp. These certificates attest to the authenticity, quality, and freedom from tampering of diamonds. Our diamonds generally have a GIA certification, providing proof of quality from the world's highest authority in the diamond industry, including a physical laser engraving of the certification number on the stone. Some also carry HRD or IGI certificates.

A GIA certificate contains the following information:

  • Date of evaluation
  • Certificate number
  • Cut shape and mass
  • Weight
  • Color grade
  • Clarity grade
  • Cut - the diamond's proportions, symmetry, and polish
  • Fluorescence grade
  • Physical laser engraving of the certification number on the girdle
  • General comments/additional information
  • Proportion diagram of the stone
  • Table percentage/Crown height information
  • Culet and girdle mass - the peak and area of the diamond's largest diameter
  • Diamond plot - a graphic representation of inclusions that affect a diamond's clarity
  • QR code for digitally comparing the certificate with the GIA database.

Other services provided by the GIA include issuing a diamond type classification and providing information about their country of origin.
